Artist’s statement
I worked in branding and motion design for twenty years. It was work with visual information in a mode of complete control. This experience shaped my approach to form, composition, and the execution of graphic concepts. But in my artistic practice, I consciously move in the opposite direction. I am interested in the moments when an image stops obeying the intention and begins to live its own life.
For this, I developed my own method, working as a palimpsest. It is a semi-generative process in which I create compositions from acrylics and pigments, subject them to physical treatment, and then assemble dry layers of colorful elements using varnishes and adhesives. The work is formed from numerous fragments that come together and conflict with each other. During the assembly process, artifacts emerge, forming an inherently unpredictable texture. As a result, each piece requires individual manual refinement. The process is generative only at its core, and in details it is unique every time.
In the end, an autonomous image is born. The original idea dissolves in the physical density of the work. I am drawn to exploring the boundary between a designed image and free matter. I do not illustrate ideas, but assemble reality anew, allowing the material to dictate the final form.
